The drug class behind the obesity and diabetes revolution may also be quietly rewinding molecular clocks across the body.
Researchers treated aging mice with low doses of a GLP-1 receptor agonist — the same class of drug as semaglutide, widely known under brand names like Ozempic and Wegovy — and then performed comprehensive multi-omic profiling across multiple organ systems. Using transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic analyses of liver, muscle, brain, and other tissues, the team mapped whether and where the drug altered the molecular hallmarks of aging, with careful controls designed to separate aging-specific effects from weight-loss effects.
